How to Set Up Google Play Music on a Chromebook
While there's no version of iTunes for Chromebooks, you can access your iTunes library using a workaround. In order to play your iTunes songs on your Chromebook, you must first import the songs to your Google Play Music library. Before doing anything, you first need to install the Google Play Music app on your Chromebook.
Download and install Google Play Music from the Chrome web store by selecting Add to Chrome.
Select Add app when prompted.
Launch the Google Play Music web interface and select the Menu icon (the three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
You may be prompted to sign in to your Google account.
Select Upload music from the drop-down menu.
A new screen will appear with the heading Listen to your iTunes music with Google Play Music. Select Next to proceed.
To verify your country of residence, select Add Card and provide your credit or debit card information.
You card will not be charged. If you already have a credit card on file with your Google account, you can skip this step.
Select Activate.
On the next screen, select musical genres and artists that interest you. These steps are optional. Once finished, you'll go back to the Google Play Music home page.
How to Copy Your iTunes Songs to Google Play
Follow the steps outlined above to set up Google Play on the Mac or Windows PC where your iTunes library resides. You must use the Chrome web browser to download and install Google Play Music.
To start transferring songs from iTunes:
Launch the Google Play Music web interface and select the Menu icon (the three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner.
You may be prompted to sign in to your Google account.
Select Upload Music from the drop-down menu.
On the Add music screen, select the option to add files from your computer and locate your iTunes folder. Select the songs you wish to add and select Open.
The file selector will not let you choose folders, so you must select each song you want individually. Alternatively, drag your iTunes folder into the Add music screen to start transferring your entire library.
On Windows, iTunes song files are typically in the following location: Users > username > Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music. On Mac, the default location is usually Users > username > Music > iTunes.
While uploading, a progress icon will appear in the bottom-left corner of the Google Play Music interface. Hovering your mouse over the icon will show the current upload status. This process can take a while, especially if you're uploading a large number of songs.
How to Access Your iTunes Music on Chromebook
Return to your Chromebook and navigate to the Google Play Music web interface in your browser. Select Music library (the musical note icon) in the left pane, and then select Songs near the top of the screen.
All of the iTunes songs that you uploaded in the previous steps should be visible. Hover your cursor over a song and select the Play button to begin listening.
