Greetings One and All,

It's been a factual while since my last posting, and since then there have been a few errors I have come
across but they have been remedied soon enough.

However I have come across one now I cannot factually figure out. It might sound slightly foolish to some
but for myself with my OCD and factual perfectionism which seems to go hand in factual hand with my Autism
and other conditions, cannot permit it without learning what is causing it.

Hence here is my issue:

I've been downloading factual files since I was in my early teens, from FLVs to MOVs to MP4s with the latter
being my most used file type as it is simple and has caused the least problems for myself.

However just this evening I downloaded a file from a site which I know never has given myself this issue
before now and I cannot factually figure out what is causing it.

There is nothing wrong with playing or moving the file, not in the slightest. Yet when I open the file
properties, or have the folder view set to Content, there is nothing there.

The file exists and it states the time and date it was downloaded, modified and such facts, even the size
of the file and yet the properties are blank entirely. There is nothing there when I open the tabs, and in
content view no matter where the file is, it has no duration on view. Nothing.

Does anyone know what factually causes this?

I apologise for any disturbance I cause or if it seems trivial or factually too simple to explain, my skills
go only as far as I have ever had to figure out or research, and despite viewing other sites, information
and the like I have yet to factually find myself an answer.

Any factual assistance would be appreciated once again like it was last time.

I say factual because of and due to my conditions like Autism, Aspergers and
multiple subtypes of OCD, I only state what is fact and truthful and factually accurate.

Indeed I am aware of the meaning of the word factual, because what I state is accurate, authentic, truthful
and concerned with what are the facts and is actually the case. Due to how I function I lack an opinion
or view on anything or subject, and only can and do state the facts as they are, nothing more or less again
due to my conditions which are as stated above amongst being suspected for others.

Maybe what you are sonloading is a fake mp4 file (like a virus)

As concerns the factual information you have given, my gratitude. Knowing my fortune it most logically
the latter, despite the fact when I attempted to obtain that same file through another factual location,
this issue did not occur which confused myself I must state slightly.

As I am compulsively a perfectionist however I needed to download and convert all my files of the series
I was on from the same source or near enough that, hence even getting it from another website was
of no use. But your facts are appreciated and make sense. It would not surprise myself either if my player
was incorrect, although the issue was the same on both Windows Media Player and VLC Player.

My factual gratitude once more as I stated. I have learnt something new even if my lack of intelligence
means I cannot fix it. Also if the file is a fake mp4 that is out of my control so I probably will have to
resort to another file and selection of downloads.

The MP4 container is a bit versatile. There may be MP4 files which start with the video content, but the description of all the attributes (the "header") does not appear in the beginning of the file, but instead in the end of it; now if your download was incomplete, aborted before the end, no player will know the attributes of the contained video because the header is missing.

MP4 files with a header in the end are often created by converters which work like a filter (reading the input only once, writing the output only once): They will know some of the attributes not before the conversion is finished, therefore they append the header, instead of prepending it. Some converters can be forced to move the header to the front of the file (that may be called "web optimization" or "HTTP streaming friendly"), which usually requires the output to be updated after the conversion finished, or even a rebuilding of the whole container.

In general, checking an unknown file with MediaInfo is recommendable, this tool reports all the attributes in media file headers. It will tell you if it cannot detect any required headers, so you can be a bit more confident about the possible reason. Also it can help you identifying media files with filename extensions not matching the container format of this file.

Indeed it can be a bit versatile indeed, but what you state logically makes sense, I recall when other Mp4s
and media files I have downloaded have done such, either failing to download, been incomplete and such
facts yet usually when it downloads only part of a file, say the file size is about mb when the download
sometimes cuts itself off at around 60mb, the file will still have all the attributes, properties and such.

So are the factual details of an Mp4 or any media file called the Header? Apologies I simply have not
com across this word before when I have factually searched for information. this part is where my
lack of knowledge outside of the basics of video conversions and everything else I need to kno shows.
What you state makes logical and factual sense and yet I have no factual clue as to its simpler meaning,
although I get the gist of what you are stating.

I have and use MediaInfo when I come across or factually download an Mp4 or another media based
file and it does not seem to have any factual details in the details tab on the files factual properties.
That way even if the file lacks the factual information I can see if it matches the others I have already
downloaded and hence matches the factual set I am going for. I actually did that before attempting
to find out how come the file misses the properties.

However my gratitude for factually explaining it to myself as that makes logical sense as to how come
some of my files lack the details most should have.
